Well, you can say its prime form were the punches and colors used to make seal and currencies in the historical societies. The real tipograpfie was traced for the first time in an inscription on the Phaistos Disc. This belonged to Crete in Greece. It is dated between 1800 and 1600 BC. It was a very special Minoan print. Tipograpfie reached a new dimension during the medieval ages. In the Pruefening Abbey inscription, written in Latin that dates back to 1119 similar techniques to that of the Phaistos disc was used. In the medieval Europe printings were found whereby words are made by putting together individual tiles for letters in a required sequence.

The modern mechanized typing owes its origin to German goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg in the mid-fifteenth century. He made his type faces with a kind of alloy that had lead. It proved to be very useful for typing. This alloy is used in the present times too.
