The Most Confused Leadership Qualties, Top 5

Posted on the May 30th, 2011 under Others by petermarrollis

What you are about to learn in these 5 myths of leadership, is that leadership is far more than ranking and knowledge. As a matter of fact, most people really have no idea what leadership is about.

Leadership can never be awarded, handed out or just given to anyone blindly. Being able to influence others is what will set you apart as a leader.

Myth #1 Management Myth.
One of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to understanding leadership is the difference between leading and managing. A lot of books that claim to be about leadership are actually books teaching people how to manage other people.

Managment is keeping people under control while leading is actually helping and guiding people to follow your lead. Influence is what makes the top leaders extremely successul in whatever they do.

The Entrepreneur myth of leadership
Enterpeneurs are by no means always great leaders! This is actually one of the biggest misconceptions that I see all of the time. All entrepreneurs are not always nessisarly great leaders.

Skilled business men are trained to spot an opportunity and jump on it when the time is right.A skilled entrepreneur with leadership qualities is unstobable.

The Myth #3

Knowledge does not make someone a true leader. Go to any college, the professors will be extremely smart but probababy do not have the best leadership skills.

Myth #4

Another misconeption that I have seen so many times is the concept that all of the people in the begging are someone automatcially great leaders. Are all of the people that are in front of the crowd leaders? No, not at all! A pioneer might be a great visionary but may not be able to lead people to follow them.

The Position Myth #5

This is truly the greatest misunderstanding of what leadership is. Think about it, if you are a top CEO, a president of a company or a manager, are you really a great leader? Some people might naturally be great leaders at these positions and that is how they earned them but NO, just being at a top position does not all of a sudden make you a leader.
